Description from the owner:
1936 Ford roadster completed in 1996. Current mileage is approx. 4,800 miles. Engine is a 427 Chevy big block that was fresh when car was built. Turbo 350 transmission with a stall converter and a nice shift kit. 9" Ford rear end with 2:75 gears. This car has a lot of power so the tall gears are fine. Dropped axle in the front with 4 bar. GM steering box steers like power steering. Parallel leaf springs in the rear. Wilwood disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear. The temperature of this car running on the freeway or in town is 165 to 180, no overheating problems at all.
The body started out as a 5 window coupe. I acquired all of the correct roadster sheet metal to turn it into a roadster, a common conversion back in the day. After the top was off of the coupe I put the roadster cowl on. The roadster doors were a near bolt on with just an upper hinge adjustment needed. I had the rear cap from the front of the deck lid to the B pillar, a very easy transformation. I chopped the windshield 3". The top does not go down because I moved the backrest of the seat further back for more comfort. The top could be modified to go down again by an upholstery shop as a snap would have to be installed on each side at the forward edge of the cloth sail panel. The top bows would fold with that modification.
I also used 1940 Chevy headlights, a nice touch. The paint is single stage. Upholstery was done by Vintage Auto Upholstery including the beautiful top. This car started with all good sheetmetal. No one would know this car started as a coupe if they were not told. Recent new items include: tires, battery, fuel pump and rear shocks. Runs and drives excellent and has the perfect look and stance.
